Chief James K. Nichols Chief Nichols has been the Chief of Police for the City of Butler since January of 2008. Chief Nichols has been a sworn law Enforcement Officer since 1991. He started his career in 1991 as a reserve officer with the Fort Wayne Police Department and worked in that capacity for four years. He then took a position for the Town of Warren as a deputy Marshal and worked in that capacity for over four years also serving as the acting Marshal. In December of 1997 Chief Nichols was hired as a patrolman with the city of Butler and he worked in that capacity until being promoted to Chief. Chief Nichols was a graduate of the Fort Wayne Police Department Reserve Academy, The Indiana Law Enforcement Academys Town Marshal Academy, An Honor Graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Basic Academy, and he is a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Executive Leadership School. Chief Nichols was on the deans list and graduated with honors with an Associates Degree in criminal justice from Indiana University and is working towards a Bachelors Degree. Chief Nichols is also a Master Sergeant in the Indiana Air Guard and has been a member for 24 years. He has served overseas on six different deployments in support of the war on terror and served two combat tours in Iraq under hostile fire. Chief Nichols has 6 full time officers and spots for 10 reserve officers at this time.
